Skagit Valley Tulip Festival: Where Happiness Blooms From The Dirt Beneath Our Feet

Can You Take Pictures With Overcast?: The Short Answer Is Yes! Don't Be Deterred By The Weather And Get Outside

A short drive outside the city of Seattle will lead you on an adventure you didn't know you needed. It's no secret that after a lifetime of chaos, Millennials are seeking their zen out in the wilderness.

Skagit Tulip Festival runs for the month of April.

So what does this mean, Millennials are seeking their zen? If you're not tuned into the never-ending stream of #PlantsOfTikTok this might not make sense to you, so let me explain. Gen Y, also known as Millennials, and Gen Z, or Centennials, are the first generations to be raised on 'the media'. With a constant onslaught of social media from sun up to sun down, a variety of global health crisis' and financial fallouts, this generation is shook. We're now seeing a huge upswing in gardening professions, arborist, etc. as Gen Y and Gen Z are coming out of this most recent Global Pandemic with new perspectives on what's important in this life. I think most of us would agree that Family, The Planet, and Self-Care are top of the list. So strap yourselves in, y'all about to see a lot of nature. 🌱

Photography has been used since 1839 to tell our stories. While back then only the rich had access to this tool; today we see parents, grandparents, and even toddlers from all walks of life taking pictures of literally everything.

Here's Some Fun Free Advice

Currently, I have an iPhone so all of this 'advice' or tips will be based off IOS models and may not apply to Android or Pixels.

When you open the camera app on your phone, it will automatically adjust to the surroundings. On overcast days, the built-in lens will make adjustments as though its a full sun day. This is because the clouds create a blanket of refracted light that- blah blah blah. Here's how you fix it.

Tap and hold the screen where you want the focus to be. This will bring up a box with a slider sun dial next to it. While still holding the tap, slide your finger either down or up on the screen. This will adjust the brightness levels of your photo! If you're looking to get good quality photos this is the easiest hack to make sure your pix turn out the way you envisioned them.

Once you adjust the brightness using the slider so that the sky is viewable, and not blown-out by the refracted light, snap your pic! You may want to then adjust other settings on that photo, like the shadows, since on overcast days the sky may be blown out while the rest of the photo looks dark. Go to back to the photo and click edit and play with the settings as you see fit.

The biggest reason I use this trick for every photo I take even if I have to go back into edit is this- if the brightest part of the photo is completely blown out by whiteness, there is no 'information' to be found there. Meaning, if you attempt to edit the blown-out photo you'll find that the editor will bring down the highlights of surrounding areas (like blond hair, teeth, your fresh kicks) while leaving the area you actually want to darken completely untouched.

By taking the photo a touch darker, you're allowing the lens to capture all spots thus gaining the most amount of information to play with and manipulate.
